Born and raised in Sao Paulo Brazil, Gustavo Pugliese started his boxing career in Pennsylvania when he moved to United States in 1998. He graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Fitness Management from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania. While a student at Lock Haven, Pugliese joined the boxing club and team, under Ken Cox (former manager of the 1996 USA Boxing Olympic Team). When competing for Lock Haven, Pugliese fought over fifty NCBA and USA Boxing bouts winning the Eastern Championship Twice (2002 & 2003), placed second at nationals and earned All-American honors as a lightweight.
In 2003, Pugliese was promoted assistant coach of the Lock Haven University boxing team. As the assistant of Dr. Cox, Pugliese was responsible for the team’s nutrition, conditioning and strength- training, and technique instruction. A USA Boxing coach certified, Pugliese is also known for his ability to teach the fundamentals of amateur boxing making them simple and easy to learn. During his first year coaching, Pugliese helped the team pick up two individual national titles.
Boxing is not his only area of expertise. Pugliese has also been the strength and conditioning coach for the Lock Haven University Wrestling Team 2003-04, a strong NCAA D1 program. Gustavo’s knowledge on the athletic fitness field made a significant impact in the program.
In 2004 Pugliese moved to San Diego CA, where he resides til this day working as a coach and personal trainer at The Boxing Club (local Gym in San Diego). Pugliese has worked with many amateurs boxers. He also has especialized himiself in teaching boxing for mma ever since he started to work with local mma athletes. In 2008, Pugliese became the boxing coach for Team Quest Temecula, one of the worls’s most recognized mma teams. At Team Quest, Pugliese has worked with many world class fighters such as Dan Henderson, Thierry Sokoudjou, Tarec Saffiedine, Jesse Taylor, Tom Lowler, Dave Herman, Vinny Magalhaes and others.
