8 Tips To Slim Down For Summer

The official first day of summer is only a few weeks away which means it’s time to buckle down. NO MORE EXCUSES! Here are 8 tips to help kickstart your summer slim down and have you ready to hit the beach in no time.

1.Drink more water.

Put down the sugary sports drink and the coffee and replace it with water. According to Boston College, “Two-thirds of Americans don’t drink enough water.” Water does more than just quench our thirst, it helps us detox impurities, increases energy, promotes weight loss, and helps with skin complexion. Most of us don't even realize how dehyrdated we are, and the good news is, all you have to do is drink more water! How much you may ask? An easy way to calculate how much water you should drink per day is divide your weight by 2 and drink that amount in ounces. Sounds easy enough, now go get yourself that hydro flask you’ve been coveting and get to drinking!

2.Limit your carb intake. (This one sucks, I know)

This one most people already know about and it’s the worst, but very effective. Cutting out carbs or any sort of grain products help you see results fast because these types of foods cause bloating, especially around those hard earned abs. That means no more late night pizza which sounds horrible, but it will be worth it when you put on that swimsuit and head to the pool with friends.

3.Do at least 30 minutes of cardio a day.

This one should be easy for our members, just take a Power Boxing or Kickboxing class and you are more than set. Cardio is effective because it is the most efficient way you can burn calories in a given amount of time. The energy in and energy out concept tell us to lose weight you have to burn more calories than you put in your body, and cardiovascular workouts help you achieve this. It’s rare to find someone who actually enjoys cardio workouts like running on the treadmill or using the elliptical, so make it fun. Do something that distracts you from how boring cardio can be, workout with a friend or take a group class to motivate you.

4.Sleep more.

This one actually sounds good, but is easier said than done. The body needs time to rest and recover from hard workouts or to relieve the constant stress we put our bodies through. Sleeping more boosts your metabolism, build muscle, and getting more rest will help you have more energy so that you won’t skip the gym and you will make better food choices. A good 7-8 hours will do the trick, so turn off the lights and Netflix, drink some sleep time tea, and get some Z’s.

5.Get some reps in before you shower.

Hopefully we all shower regularly so that this one should be as easy as breaking out some squats or pushups while you wait for the water to warm up. Why? Well why not? You are already preparing to shower might as well get a quick sweat sesh in before. Do 3 sets of 12, squats, pushups, and sit upsbefore  your morning or evening regimen to tone up fast. Every bit helps!

6.Eat more green stuff.

Again one we all have heard before but this one can’t be said enough to people wanting to lose a few pounds fast. If you want to lose weight, eat more greens (preferrably raw), it’s as simple as that. This can take the form of a big salad for lunch (easy on the dressing) or plenty of spinach or kale in your morning smoothies. Clean and fresh greens get you the body you want. This one can be difficult to stick to because we all like to go out with friends for dinner, but just choose the salad and get the dressing on the side that way you can regulate how much you are consuming.

7.Don’t cleanse unless your mental strength is on point.

Juice cleanses sound good because you can drop weight quickly, but that’s because you aren’t eating food. Cleanses can be expensive and most people don’t last through a whole 5-7 day cleanse so make sure you are mentally prepared for the challenge. There are benefits to cleansing but the benefits only last if you continue eating healthy after it’s through. If you really think cleansing is a good weight loss method for you to go be ready to combat those cravings and remember it’s only a quick fix.

8.No more late night snacking.

We all have a tendency when starting and new healthy eating regime to eat well during the day to then ruin it at night. DON’T! Don’t let your hard work at the gym be for nothing. Instead of snacking on that bag of chips drink some herbal tea. Sometimes we just eat out of boredom, so don’t give in! Distract yourself by drinking water or some decaffeinated tea. Brushing your teeth can also be an easy detterent if you really find yourself in a bind. If you MUST snack pick something healthy, and a clean protein if possible. Stash you fridge with some healthy snack options so that when the urge occurs you don’t go for that tub of ice cream in the freezer.

Hope these help, see you in the gym!
